Burnout (even when you're having fun)

I think there’s a fallacy in the idea of burnout. Most of us assume too much of a bad thing causes burnout. But, what if it is too much of a good thing?

In my professional life right now, I’m loving the job I’m doing. I’m making a difference with the team I am leading. I have an amazing and supportive boss. I’m being well compensated and valued for the work I do. And I am TIRED.

Working 10-12 hour days at a job you love still burns you out. It just takes longer than doing things you dislike. Real self care: taking time to exercise, doing something creative (theatre, for me), talking to friends who support you, breathing, laughing, crying (all suggested in Burnout, an amazing book by @emilynagoski and @ameliarnp) helps. Medication may also be a part of the puzzle.

Listen to your body, mind, and heart- even while doing a job that rocks your world.
